Are you insightful and creative, yet held back by unfortunate events in your life? Is there something in your past that overshadows your relationships? Perhaps you find that anger, hurt, or anxiety are triggered by seemingly small things.
This may indicate that you have unfinished business from your past, which can be addressed in therapy. A history that includes neglect or abuse can leave a wounded sense of who you are, which can find healing.
Often it takes more than insight and creativity, or even grim determination to move on. Sometimes we need help getting unstuck. Sometimes we need help reaching back to recover a part of ourselves that has gotten mired in the past.
I’d like to help. My approach begins with careful listening to all you bring. I want to hear your whole story. Then, instead of a simple and temporary fix, I seek to get at the root or source of the hurt, in order to find deep healing.
As I have worked with clients over the years, I have come to favor two distinctive approaches to addressing life’s hurts, which I find to be especially useful. Both approaches allow for more rapid change than the usual “talk therapy.” Lifespan Integration (www.lifespanintegration.com) is a way of recovering and bringing up to present those parts of ourselves that we have “left behind” at difficult times of our lives. Where there has been neglect, this approach can also enable a deep repair for one’s emerging and healing self. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (www.EMDR.com) is an approach to treating trauma, which enables one to get unstuck and move on to a resolution of painful events in our lives.
